It's different for those of us living in wealthier places. Our lives aren't at the mercy of changes in climate. Whether it's rainy, windy, sunny, hot, or cold makes little difference to what we do in our offices, schools, and homes. If anything, the weather is a mild inconvenience that gets in way of hike or practice after school. It's easier for us to ignore climate change because it doesn't impact us the way it impacts more vulnerable people around the world. But because it isn't a big deal for us, doesn't mean it isn't a big deal for other people.

God has called us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Jesus calls us in Matthew 25 to care for the sick and the needy, the hungry and naked, the orphan and the oppressed. We must care for those who are suffering. We care about climate change because it impacts all of us, especially the poorest and most vulnerable people, here at home and around the world.
We care about climate change and know that we can do something about it. We are the first generation to fully witness the impacts of climate change and the last generation that can truly do something about it. We can do it. We have the resources and the technology to make all the changes necessary to protect our planet and all that lives upon it. What we need now is the will. Will you commit to protecting our common home?
