Established in the midst of a humanitarian crisis stemming from the civil war, Tearfund Nigeria has grown from strength to strength across five decades of peace-building, relief, and advocacy work.
Sharing their vision of a just and sustainable world with local partners and churches across the country, Tearfund Nigeria has run many successful advocacy campaigns, including Tearfund’s Light up the Darkness campaign, which called on the World Bank to invest more into renewable energy for the country.
“What we’re really trying to do is have our campaign run as a movement; as something that happens organically without necessarily having to spend so much money to catalyse those movements, as they become self-sustaining.” Promise Salawu
Tearfund Nigeria and five churches launched Renew Our World Nigeria in 2018. They have engaged with church networks and denominational leaders across Nigeria on climate justice and the wider Renew Our World campaign. Renew Our World thus serves as a national platform for activists to develop new resources and action plans within their own communities for positive environmental change across the country.
